The First Look

It has been a long wedding tradition for the bride and groom to not see each other before the wedding ceremony, but nearly half of couples are deciding to toss out that tradition and take a sneak peek.  Known as the first look, according to the Wedding Wire Newlywed Report, 48% of couples in 2019 saw their beloved prior to the wedding ceremony.  From the many “I do’s” that we have had the joy of being a part of at Agritopia Weddings, here are some of the pros and cons we have seen to shed some light when making your decision.

The anticipation of walking down the aisle in front of so many people can be an added stress to your wedding day.  Having that first look not only provides an intimate moment with just the two of you, but it can relieve some stress too.  You could also take advantage of this moment to read your vows to one another as well.  We suggest to make sure your photographer is there to capture the emotion of it all.

For the brides, the first look also allows the freshest look of hair and makeup for one of the most important photos on the shot list.  Some grooms also secretly like this option because they can’t predict their emotions when the bride walks down the aisle and they would rather not risk a few tears in front of their buddies.

Couples are also opting for that first look so that all bridal party photos can be taken before the ceremony to help with time management.  This allows for the couple to take those after ceremony family photos and have a more relaxed time to get to the reception.

Parents or older generation guests might be shocked that you would consider seeing your beloved before the wedding ceremony, so don’t be surprised if you get some push back.  If that is the case, it just might be easier to stick to the tradition to wait for that element of surprise to avoid any disappointment.  You can always opt to have that first look with your father, the first man in your life instead!
